Have you ever met someone and instantly you were bonded to them for life? It felt like you've known them always? This is the case with my estranged husband's brother and his wife. They are like my own brother and sister. Even with all that has transpired over the past two years in my marriage, they have kept in touch and have continued to pray for us. So tonight, I want to share a very small part of their story...
Gaston and Kynn Bilbo are phenominal people. They are very involved in their local church where they are faithful in tithes and offerings. They have literally fed the poor, visited the sick, and even visited those in prison. (We'll get to that in a minute.) I have seen this couple grow and mature in their faith by leaps and bounds over the past 10 years. Their growth spurt, if you will, has been an inspiration to me. Their hunger has made me hungry. Their excitement in the things of God has made me excited. They truly are contagious!
Many years ago, Gaston was diagnosed with Von Hippel-Lindau disease. The disease is a rare, genectic disorder that causes an abnormal growth of tumors in various parts of the body. Treatment usually includes surgery to remove the tumors. There is no cure and only one in 32,000 people have it according to the VHL Family Alliance website. People with VHL are at a higher risk of other kinds of cancer.
I am telling you all of this to say...Gaston and his wife, Kynn, have a great faith in the Lord and His power to save and to heal. A few months back, Gaston received a somewhat concerning report. He made a precautionary visit to MD Anderson in Houston. Upon this visit, he received an awesome report! Gaston was told he was in excellent condition! The physician attributed his diligence in keeping physically fit and his strong faith.
I believe the fact that Gaston and Kynn have made it their mission to serve their God with all their mind, body, soul, and strength has extended his days. What is impossible for my God??? NOTHING! Through all of this, if anyone has an excuse to feel sorry for themselves, the Bilbo's should. Instead, they have turned their focus to the Living God and spend their time caring for His people. This very weekend, Gaston is participating in his 6th year of a weekend prison ministry called Kairos. This ministry is recognized as a highly effective program for inmates.
I may not understand everything with regard to the state of my marriage, but I do know God has bonded me with two of the most precious people on this earth. To God be the Glory!
In the right-hand column of this page, I have added a page of resources on VHL.
